Preliminary Task: Evaluation
I believe that I created my school/ college magazine ‘Hampstead
Monthly’ quite well since it follows the codes and conventions of a magazine. I
have included a mast head, cover lines which relate to the school, main image,
the date and issue, a bar code, price tag and a website and for my contents page
I made the font of the page number bigger and in a different colour and I also
added other images into my contents page. I stuck with the same theme colour of
black, red and white since that was the most popular answer in the
questionnaire and it is the colour of our school.
My school/ college magazine is quite formal because of the
target audience. The target audience is teachers and students in the school so
the writing and font is quite simple and my model on the cover is wearing
smart, casual clothing to represent the school. The mast head is a bright red
to attract the audience and to show off our school colour, I added the school’s
slogan below the mast head to represent the school. The purpose of the magazine
is to inform the readers of what’s happening in their school so the magazine is
quite simple so that it’s easier to read and understand. The cover lines that
are added on to the magazine and the pages listed in the contents page were
chosen by the questionnaire the questionnaire showed that the readers would
like a story about prom and graduation in the magazine.
The magazine would not be sold to a particular media
institution since it’s a school magazine so the money made from the magazine
will go towards the school or the council. Since it’s a school magazine the
magazine would be targeted to the students that attend the school, the teachers
and even the parents who would like updates of what’s happening in the school.
The main image on my cover is of a prefect and the cover line about meeting our
new prefects and getting to know the sixth form may attract the teachers and
sixth form students to read the magazine, the cover line about revision and
prom and graduation may attract all students because they may want to learn
tips on revision or they may be curious as to how the Year 11 prom and
graduation was (parents may even be curious about the prom and graduation)
however they are the secondary audience for my college magazine.
From producing my magazine my photography skills was
resourceful for editing my images and composing my images using different shot
types on the DSLR camera. All images used in the school/ college magazine are
original images. I learned that patience is required when producing a magazine
as it takes a while for everything to come out as planned and playing around
with different tools and layouts on Photoshop is important to see what is
suitable for the target audience.
